flu season vaccination

Have you taken your flu vaccine this year?

National Influenza Vaccine Week (click link to read article) in the US occured earlier in Dec 2016 but it's also time to remind all Singaporeans that it's time also to get your annual flu vaccine if you have not already done so.

In Singapore there are two peak flu seasons, generally from December to February, and May to July. It's now National Influenza Vaccination Week in the US which corresponds with Singapore's December to February flu season.

The best way to prevent spread of influenza is through vaccination. The single best way to protect your loved ones and yourself is the annual flu vaccine (injectable). It takes 2 weeks to be effective so come and get it early!

We (the Ministry of Health Singapore, the Singapore Health Promotion Board and Doctors) recommend that anyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine, especially if you're at higher risk of complications of the flu which includes:
- people aged 65 and above.
- children 6 months to 5 years.
- adults and children with chronic lung or heart diseases including COPD and asthma.
- adults and children on regular follow up for metabolic diseases (including diabetes), liver, kidney, neurological and blood diseases. This also includes immunosuppressed patients (e.g. On HIV treatment or chemotherapy).
- pregnant women.
- Residents of nursing homes, intermediate / long term care facilities.

Katong Family Clinic carries the most up to date quadrivalent (4-strain) flu vaccine. Come and protect yourself and your family today!

At Katong Family Clinic our Doctors (Dr Sarah Packer & Dr Jack Lee) are accredited by the Office of the Public Guardian to issue LPA (Lasting Power of Attorney) Certificates.

An LPA is a legal document that allows a person to appoint trusted others (one or more) to manage their affairs should they become unable to do so one day and can only be made whilst the person has the mental capacity to do so.

Our Doctors will be happy to guide you through the process for completing your LPA. Do come down if you wish to find out more!
